Our Vision

"Changing
Tomorrow
Through The Youth
of Today!"

Our Mission

The Redwood Samurai's position is to break down barriers of confusion and self-doubt by instilling a sense of "I Can" in the youth of today, all through collaboration. We open all doors, learn to deal with and even rise to the occasion of circumstance and scenario, (no matter how problematic) all through the practice of Kendo. Within this Way, we find many things that test our mental and physical elasticity and adaptation. The Training, the arts and crafts, the community involvement, the philosophies needed to build an ever evolving human being. All of these things, and more, guide us to a path that is uniquely our own; but never alone.

Beginner Kendo Club

Kendo - The Way of the Japanese Sword. Beginner Kendo classes revolve around the basics taught to newcomers, intermediate and is the same content which seasoned practitioners of Kendo continue to develop over the course of their life long training. In beginner Kendo classes, students will find themselves learning how to maintain Balance, Posture, Footwork, how to maintain their gear for longevity, How to hold the Shinai (Bamboo Practice Sword);  it is designed to plant seeds in the minds of the youth and adults to promote growth, perseverance, and give the student tools to break through any barriers they may encounter throughout life. And also  that its okay to follow your dreams and that ANYTHING is possible if you work diligently to pursue it!

Journaling

Journaling is one of the greatest tools that any student can be trained to use in any area of their life. I teach students the power of Goal SettingCritical Thinking, and the power to recollect that which they have just trained in, on paper. This skill and tool has innumerable value throughout their lives.

Art’s & Crafts

Here at The Redwood Samurai, we grow through through imagination, creativity and bringing those thoughts, dreams and aspirations into reality. We learn that anything is possible, if we can first learn how to identify the “Dream” or “Aspiration,” and then begin to make a “Plan” to draft up the “Blueprint” to bringing that into reality with dedication, consistency and perseverance. Without creative imagination, how can we grow into something new? How could we create anything for ourselves, our families, or society that has real “Use." Through the simple arts and crafts taught here in this program, students will learn the fundamentals of what it takes to think up new ideas, make a plan to execute attainable mile-stones towards successful completion of making things become a reality; in addition to learning how to give one’s self patience and give into the processes of life, that which take time to build what we see in our hearts and mind. Patience, Trusting the processes, allowing one’s self the time to learn new skills and develop new abilities. To learn the more important lessons than the simple, “how to do this, or that.” The things that are learned can be taken and applied to the rest of their lives!
